iPod virus…yes its true
Yes its true that 1% of iPods (formatted for windows) shipped with a virus that infects Microsoft Windows boxes. Yes its true Apple put the only PR spin on it they could.
“The virus wouldn’t even be an issue if Windows was a secure platform”
Yes I think that that is funny and if I was in PR I would have done exactly the same thing.
To suggest however that they did this deliberately is one of the stupidest things I have heard this year in my life ! To infer that Apple would deliberately infect any percentage of its strangle hold on the portable media player market is dissipointing. This from someone who’s tech writing style I actually held in high reguard. I know of many Windows users who enjoy using their iPods with and with out iTunes (Don’t get me started on iTunes 7. What a slug ! Nice interface though). But who, would all flush their iPods down the toilet (literally) if it destroyed their life. I like many others have their digital lives stored on their computer of choice.
The iPod is doing too well at turning users to the Mac OS
“slow and steady wins the race”
“may the better man win”
why on earth would they pull a stunt like that.!
The phrase doing the rounds at the mo’ is
“if OSX is so good why aren’t they using it on the assembly line”
Stop and think about that… no still don’t get it?
That would be like using a soccer ball to test a golf club. Simple really. Why test a windows formatted iPod on a Macintosh?
‘We encourage all third party vendors to follow best practices and help protect their users regardless of platform through careful scanning of the software they ship, so that they do not expose their customers to unnecessary risk from malicious software.’
-Microsoft
Sorry but this still leaves “the pod in windows court” How hard can it be? Microsoft you are in no position to comment. For years like every other software developer you release ‘gold’ and let your customers do the fine tuning! And if the windows users were running virus protection it would not be a problem. But I guess it highlights the real problem. A percentage of window ‘users’ (or machines) still don’t take precautions.
The only thing I find dissipointing and stupid here is that Apple wearn’t running protection on their windows boxes. Something that defys belief??????? Its like lying down with a dog and not expecting to have flea bites.
Apple you should appoligise for that! And perhaps it would have been a better spin to put on it. And it suggest to me that Apple is getting lazy about security
This is my opinion and I seem to be alone.
Sorry about spelling and grammar. I wanted this in the wild before I go to Indy.

I enjoy all 3 of my iPods with Winamp ^_^
